HERRIMAN, Utah -- August 1, 2020 -- ION Earth, ION Solar’s charitable arm, donated a premium solar system to Homes For Our Troops, an organization dedicated to building and donating specially adapted, custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives.

Homes For Our Troops and ION Solar joined forces through the ION Earth program to provide a free, premium solar system for veteran Bryant Jacobs. The solar system was installed on August 1, 2020 on their custom home built by Homes For Our Troops. ION Solar employees dedicated their time, expertise and equipment to make the installation possible.

“I can’t believe that there are 20 guys out there that are willing to be here on a Saturday morning in almost 100 degree weather just to put solar on my roof. To be honest, this whole experience has been absolutely phenomenal. The positivity, you don’t get that with a lot of careers where people are like ‘this is what I do and I love it.’ It feels like they want to be here to hang out and be a part of this. I can’t thank ION Solar enough for everything. This is amazing,” Jacob’s said during the installation on Saturday.

The Jacob’s can now enjoy a custom, sustainable home powered by clean, renewable energy.

More About Bryant Jacobs

Army Specialist Bryant Jacobs was serving in Iraq when he was severely injured on December 3, 2004. With just a month to go of his year-long tour of duty, Bryant was injured when his HMMWV was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED), which instantly killed another Soldier in his unit. The team was conducting a routine route clearance and was on a return sweep when the IED exploded. The blast hit the passenger side of the HMMWV, throwing Jacobs from the vehicle. Homes For Our Troops presented Bryant with his specially adapted custom home in September 2009. Since then, he’s held an annual golf tournament for Homes For Our Troops to pay it forward, raising almost $80,000 in seven years. Bryant married his wife, Michele, in September 2013. In 2014, Bryant had his right leg voluntarily amputated due to lingering wartime injuries.

He says, “Honestly, words can’t describe how thankful I am for a fully accessible home. It’s little things, like taking a shower, that are easier again.”
