United States Solar Projects
Solar power is rapidly growing. There are several larger-scale solar projects around the country that are transforming the solar industry and leading the way to a sustainable and renewable energy powered world! Here are a few United States-based solar projects that deserve attention:
New York
A New York solar energy company completed a 7.2-MW Denmark Community Solar Project in Lewis County, New York. This ground mount system went live in February 2020 and is the second largest community solar system in the state of New York. The array produces more than 8.9 million kWh of clean energy per year.
Brittany Davis, executive director of Lewis County Economic Development/IDA stated, "As Lewis County continues to be a leader in renewable energy, we are pleased to see the completion of this project that not only provides the benefit of clean energy for our residents and businesses but also provides the benefit of clean energy for our residents and businesses but also provides economic opportunities for our communities."
Wisconsin
Near the Dane county Regional Airport in Wisconsin, a 9MW solar array will be installed. The solar array should be able to generate enough electricity to provide Dane County with about 40% of the energy used by all county-owned facilities. The solar array, spanning 58 acres of county-owned land, will consist of 31,000 solar panels. This will be the largest solar project in Dane County and will be the largest in the state built for a single customer.
Madison Gas and Electric Chairman, President and CEO Jeff Keebler stated, "Clean energy is important to MGE, to Dane County and to many who live and work here. We support the county's clean energy goals and are excited to partner on this project to add more locally generated renewable energy. Partnerships like this will help MGE achieve net-zero carbon electricity for all of our customers by 2050."
Georgia
An 86-MWAC solar facility is being built in southeast Georgia by Mortenson Solar and Emerging Renewables Group for Silicon Ranch. This solar project is expected to be finished by the end of this year as construction is already underway. Silicon Ranch is funding the project and will own and operate the facility following installation.
Trent Mostaert, General Manager and Vice President of Mortenston's Solar and Emerging Renewables Group stated, "We look forward to working with Silicon Ranch on the Snipesville solar project in Georgia and are proud to be helping to provide renewable energy to Green Power EMC's network in the state. This is a great opportunity for individuals in the area with experience or those seeking new skills to learn about building solar and help to secure our sustainable energy future."
Maine
A 5-MW array has received permitting approvals to begin construction on underutilized land on Oakland, Maine. The new solar array is expected to produce enough clean energy to power nearly 10,000 Maine homes. Encore Renewable Energy was selected to provide net metering credits from the project to a group of Competitive Energy Services customers.
Chad Farrell, Founder and CEO of Encore Renewable Energy stated, "Maine's solar market has been advancing steadily under Governor Mill's leadership. This project and others that follow will support Maine's growing clean energy economy. Solar and energy storage will provide local communities and Maine businesses with economic relief in the form of affordable electricity, lease income for landowners, tax revenue for communities and jobs, all while addressing the climate crisis."
Texas
J-POWER USA typically deals with natural gas and fossil fuel projects. However, they are tackling their first solar project in Wharton County, Texas. A 350-MWAC solar project will be developed close to a high-power demand area.
Mark Condon, President and CEO of J-POWER USA stated, "We are excited to expand our development capabilities into the renewable energy field. J-POWER USA's participation in this project will assist in providing energy to the marketplace in order to meet consumer demand for clean, affordable and reliable power."
